Mission Statement
The Mission of Gothenburg Public Schools is to prepare all students to become lifelong learners within a positive and innovative learning environment.


Gothenburg Jr.-Sr. High School and Dudley Elementary School are within a single building and have been since the completion of a building project in 2004. Additional rooms were added to Dudley Elementary, and a new structure was built that houses the Junior/Senior High School. Dudley Elementary served the educational needs of approximately 460 students, while Gothenburg Jr.-Sr. High School educated 430 students. Approximately 30% of the student population qualified for free/reduced lunch and approximately 12% received SPED services.

Gothenburg has four parks covering 55 acres. Summer Recreation facilities include swings, picnic areas, pool, athletic fields, Frisbee golf course, football stadium, ball parks, camping areas, and playground equipment.

Lake Helen Recreation Area is located on the north edge of Gothenburg.

Lafayette Park and Lafayette Park Campgrounds are located along the north edge of Gothenburg along Highway 47 and 27th Street. 

Ehmen Park offers covered picnic shelters, a playground and the Pony Express Station. 

E.G. West Park provides a great escape to relax with tennis courts, play equipment and pleasant surroundings.
