Mission Statement
Crawford Public Schools, in partnership with our parents and community, will provide rigorous and relevant learning experiences, empowering each student to achieve their life's greatest potential.


Crawford Public School is a Class 3 K-12 district located in rural northwestern Nebraska. Less than 10% of the students are of non-white ethnic backgrounds and graduation rates are consistently above the state average. Crawford Elementary School provides a School-wide Title 1 program. The district is comprised of two buildings. The Elementary houses PreK-6, the Jr. Sr. High building houses 7-12. There are no rural attendance centers in the Crawford District. In the elementary building, the 6th grade is departmentalized in the areas of Science and Social Studies and shares staff with the Jr. High. 6th grades students participate in these classes in the 7-12 building. The district provides a collaborative Pre-K program with Head Start. The district received a continuation grant for its After-School program through the 21st Century Schools grant program. Both schools sponsor a local Parent Leadership Team.

Crawford Nebraska “The Garden Beyond the Sandhills” is located in the northwest corner of Nebraska.  It is 75 miles from Scottsbluff, NE and 120 miles from Rapid City, SD.  Just sixty-five miles to the north is Hot Springs, SD and the beginning of the Black Hills.

 There are many recreational activities in and around Crawford including: Fort Robinson State Park, Chadron State Park, Whitney Lake and Box Butte Reservoir for camping, fishing, boating, biking and hiking opportunities.  There are plenty of hunting opportunities as we are the Big Game Hunting Capitol of the State of Nebraska.  We have the PRCA Old West Trails Rodeo over the 4th of July, a Senior Pro Rodeo and the Fort hosts several rodeos during the year.  For those interest in fossils the Hudson-Meng Bonebed, Agate Fossil Beds and Toadstool Geological Park and many other opportunities for hunting rocks and fossils including a Rock Swap every Labor Day weekend. Other annual events include the Post Playhouse, The White River Wacipi, The Legend Buttes Rumble Car Show, Crawford Cattle Call, Peabody Hale Fiddle Contest and the Fort Robinson Christmas Dinner.  We also have a nine hole golf course nestled under the buttes.

 Crawford is a small community of approximately 1,000 friends and neighbors.  Civic groups include: Eagles Club, VFW, American Legion, Historical Society, PEO, Daughters of the American Revolution and several church groups. If you are interested in museums there is the Historical Museum in Crawford, Fort Robinson has the Fort Robinson Museum and the Trailside Museum. In Chadron, 25 miles to the east is the Dawes County Museum, the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center and Museum of the Fur Trade.
