Mission Statement
At Bertrand Community School we provide quality education, empowering our students to realize their potential in an ever-changing world.


Bertrand Community School is a rural school in Phelps and Gosper counties. The K-12 enrollment is PK 22 and K-12 240, with 27 teachers employed. The teachers range in experience from 1 year to 38 years. The elementary grades establish a solid educational base, while the 7-12 grades offer a mix of vocational and college preparatory opportunities.

The Bertrand community has a golf course, swimming pool, grocery store, bank, post office, restaurant and lounge, gas station and convenience store, four insurance agencies, a law office, six area churches, a part-time medical clinic, boutique, gift shop and t-shirt business, auto repair, nursing home, veterinary clinic and Fire and Rescue Department. Bertrand is 20 miles from Johnson Lake, 16 miles from Elwood Reservoir. The community is host to Annual Bertrand Days Fair and Rodeo, sand volleyball and corn hole. 

Bertrand has various community groups to be involved in including: Viking Booster Club, Chamber of Commerce, Ag Society, Youth Sports Programs, FFA Alumni, Sand Volleyball League, Golf League, Senior Citizen Center, Nursing Home, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, Church organizations, Bertrand Days Committees, Bertrand Education Association, VFW, Bertrand Area Community Fund and Area 4-H Clubs.
